Our Vision and Values

St Luke’s is a nurturing, dynamic and diverse community, rooted in Christian values, where children are encouraged to be the best they can be. The following values are our guiding principles:

  • Trust
  • Service
  • Kindness
  • Friendship
  • Perseverance
  • Thankfulness

We will do everything we can to help every child understand the importance of these values through the way we behave towards them and each other. Each child’s educational, emotional and spiritual welfare is vitally important and we commit to doing our very best for every child. Our vision is:

“Reaching higher than I dreamed, becoming the person I can really be, doing the best that I can, for the world and for me.”

We could summarise our vision with the phrase: ‘Learning for Life”, and our school motto “Always seeking to improve.”

Safeguarding Statement

St Luke's Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the Policies section of our website.

We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in Child Protection, and children are made aware of the adults they can talk to if they have any concerns. Staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

We have a team of Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) that can be seen on posters around school.

Our DSL is Monica Dickman (SENco and Inclusion Manager).

Our Deputy DSLs are

  • Ann Dwulit (Executive Headteacher),
  • Jess Cameron (Head of School)
  • Jenny Phillips (Assistant Head Teacher)
  • Anissa Lucey (Learning Mentor)

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.

ST LUKE’S BEHAVIOUR & DISCIPLINE STATEMENT 2017-18

St Luke’s Vision:

“Reaching higher that I dreamed,

Becoming the person I can really be,

Doing the best that I can

For the world and for me.”

Statement from governors, senior leadership and the staff team

At St Luke’s, the children are at the heart of all that we do and every decision that we make. We have a nurturing, loving ethos where Christian values permeate through the life of the school. Every pupil understands that they have the right to feel safe, valued and respected and learn free from the disruption of others. All pupils, staff and visitors are free from any form of discrimination. Staff and volunteers set an excellent example to pupils at all times. Rewards, sanctions and reasonable force by trained staff are used consistently and are outlined in this behaviour and discipline policy which is understood by pupils and staff and shared with parents and carers. The section about exclusions explains that we only use exclusion as a last resort and the policy states the difference between permanent and fixed-term exclusion. Pupils are helped to take responsibility for their actions and are clear about consequences for excellent behaviour as well as consequences for more negative behaviour that needs to improve. Excellent behaviour is expected inside the school building, in the playground, on any trips and in the vicinity of the school. Families are involved in behaviour incidents and we endeavour to foster good relationships between the school and pupils’ home life. The governing body emphasises that violence or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated in any circumstances.

This written statement and the Behaviour and Discipline Policy which includes the anti-bullying policy are reviewed by the governors, senior leadership and staff team on the first Inset day every September. The contents are shared are appropriately with children and families shortly afterwards so there is clarity of expectations. We reinforce the policy during the course of every school year.
