Activity 1

Our new topic in R.E. is The Bible.

We have looked at the Bible briefly in some of our R.E. lessons already this year.

One of our big questions is...

Why is the Bible important for Christians today?

Let us keep that in our minds while we watch the video about the history of The Bible.

How to Read the Bible: Biblical Story

All children should be supervised when on YouTube

The Video shows us some of the BIG moments in the Bible.

Can you design the front and back cover for a children’s  Bible?

What should you include on your front cover?

  • Use colours to make it look appealing for children.

  • A big, bold title.

  • A mixture of words and pictures.

What should you include on the back cover?

  • Use colours to make it look appealing for children.

  • A Blurb. - Little bit of what its about and why it will help the reader.

  • A mixture of words and pictures.

  • Quotes about or from the book?

Activity 2

Today we are going to continue looking at The Bible and how it helps to guide people, help people and give people comfort.

It does this through a collection of stories.

The questions I want us to think about today are:

1 Which stories are special and why?

2 What can we learn from sacred books?

3 Does living biblically mean obeying the whole Bible?

Watch the video below.

Thinking back through our R.E. lessons, think about the stories we looked at and acted out. The miracles. This will help you answer the questions.

What is the Christian Holy Bible?

All children should be supervised on YouTube.

Now answer these questions.

Remember to write in FULL SENTENCES and give reasons for your answers.

Activity 3

Today we are going to continue looking at The Bible and how it helps to guide people, help people and give people comfort. It does this through a collection of stories.

Let’s start by thinking about and if you can talk to someone about:

How do people decide what matters most and what is the best way to live?

What sources of guidance and wisdom do they use/turn to?

What helps them to decide how to live?

What matters most and which matters least out of these 10 things?

Put them in order of importance to you. Number 1 matters the most and number 10 matters the least. (Remember there is no right or wrong answer as long as you can explain why YOU chose the order.)

  • Care
  • Safety
  • Life
  • Family
  • God
  • Love
  • Cleverness
  • Trying hard
  • Friends
  • Yourself

The Sun and the Wind | Aesop's Fables | PINKFONG Story Time for Children

This story has a moral. There is a lesson in the story that we can learn from and apply to our own lives.

Watch the next video.

Think about the proverbs and what we can learn from the messages.

Proverbs in Movies

We are going to make our own class book of WISE WORDS.

You need to write either a PROVERB or a SHORT STORY that we can put in our book to help guide people to live good lives.

Activity 4

This week we are going to think about how stories in the Bible can help inspire people.

One of my favourite Bible stories is David and Goliath.

Watch the video below.

Answer the following questions.

  1. What do you think the moral (lesson) of the story is?

  2. Can you think of other stories you have heard or read that have a similar message?

  3. Did the story inspire you?

  4. Can you apply the story to a story from your own life?

  5. Think of a story that you have read or been told that has inspired you, can you retell me the story?

Activity 5

Let’s have a look at the parable of The Lost Sheep.

Matthew 18:13-15

13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish. 15 “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over.

Watch the video or look through the slide show.

Answer the following questions.

Remember to write in full sentences.

  1. Who do you think is represented by the sheep?
  2. Who do you think is represented by the shepherd?
  3. What is the moral of the story?

Now draw a comic strip to recount the parable of The Lost Sheep.

Use either 6 or 8 boxes for your comic strip.
