Activity 1
Recognising rhyming words is part of learning phonics. The link below will take you to a couple of short clips where a couple of funny monsters help a little girl to learn rhymes. After that, read the words on the worksheet to see if your child can match the rhyming words. You could introduce a ruler to draw the lines and develop their fine motor skills.

Activity 2 Christopher the Explorer has a list of things he needs to take on his next adventure, but he can’t read! Can you help Christopher work out what he needs to pack in his bag? Sound out the words on the list and blend them together. You could draw pictures to help Christopher know what he needs to take. Use the phonics cards from last week for this activity or just write the words on a large piece of paper. The items on his list are: map cup hat pen |

Activity 3
Today I am introducing a new phonics website for your child to use.Teach your Monster to Read is an award-winning series of games which helps children to master the key first stages of reading. It's been created by the Usborne Foundation, led by Peter Usborne (of Usborne Publishing).
It’s free to play on a PC and laptop, or you can download the Teach Your Monster to Read app from the app store on phones and tablets.

and then write your child’s name (just the forename with a capital letter at the beginning. For example, Jon Smith should type Jon). Then press play and you’re ready to go.

If you use the app, you just need to put the star code first: 5741932 and the name of your child like before. There are not passwords needed. I will monitor who is engaging in the games, so I can add challenges and different activities for each player. Use it as much as you like; give it a go today and then use it as you like on top of the daily activities. |
