Week commencing 18th May

The book for this week is ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle, same author and illustrator as last week’s ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.

I have also included another book called ‘Everybody Worries’ by Jon Burgerman. It is a free eBook that you can access by clicking the link below:

Activity 1

Read this week’s book with your child. After that your child may have noticed the very distinctive artwork by Eric Carle or you can point at the similarities with ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.

Do you like the illustrations?

Are they similar to the ones in ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’?

Do you think the same person created these pictures?

What else do both stories have in common?

Children should be supervised when in YouTube

Activity 5

There are three key words to learn in this activity: flower, stem and leaf (or leaves). First model for your child by pointing at the picture and saying each word and then your child will copy. Then encourage them to do some writing by writing the first sound for each part of the plant. These are not CVC words and children will not be ready to sound out and blend complete words, but you could extend the activity by including the roots and soil and by adding a picture of a sun and rain (or a water can).
