Week commencing 11th May

Our next ‘In the Garden’ topic book is the classic ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. Please keep reading ‘The Enormous Turnip’ to your child and also show them the video of me reading a different version called ‘The Gigantic Turnip’.

Activity 1

Eric Carle, the author of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ is also its illustrator. This animated version of the book keeps the feeling of the original pictures in the book and is beautiful and atmospheric way to introduce the story to children.

Activity 3

Help your child to develop strength and control of their muscles by completing this workbook designed to enhance fine motor skills:

Activity 4

Children are not used to seeing the person behind their favourite books, and it is nice to spend some time appreciating their talent and art (Eric Carle is both the author and the illustrator of the story).

Ask your child to guess who the person reading the book is.

Do you think he wrote the book when he was younger or as an old person? Why?

Would you like to create books like Eric Carle does?

What do you need to create a book like ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’?
