Maths Activity 1

5 A Day! Use a 12 x 12 times table grid if you need to!
 

1. 482 +789 + 8581 =

5. Write the following in 24 hour clock: a) 4:55pm, b) 7:33am, c) 10:15pm

As we have done 2 weeks of time, we will leave it for now and come back to it at a later date. Please keep practising though!!

This week, we are starting to learn about perimeter and then we will be going on to learn about area. We will be learning to calculate both and then trying to solve some problems too.

Watch the BBC video below to learn what perimeter is and then do the two short check activities.

After you have watched the video and completed the two short tasks, please complete either the spicy or hot activity 1 sheet below. If you’re feeling energetic, you could even do both!! They are not ‘to scale’ which means using a ruler won’t help you! Write your answer in the middle of the shape: P=perimeter!

REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE WALKING AROUND THE WHOLE SHAPE – DON’T MISS ANY SIDES OUT!!

Today, watch the video below with Mr Kumar which will hopefully help you to understand how to find the perimeter of squares. Once you have watched the video, please try activity 2 (Task 1 and 2) below.

Today, please watch the following video for JUST 2 MINUTES!!! PLEASE DON’T WATCH PAST 2 MINUTES TODAY AS IT MIGHT GET CONFUSING!!! We will be coming back to ‘area’ next week.  The video is going to explain how to work out the perimeter for composite shapes (irregular polygons) which are shapes that look like there are a few rectangles stuck together! After you have watched the video, please have a go at finding the perimeters of the composite shapes in questions 1, 2 and 4 below.  You might also like to have a go at the challenge too!

We hope that you have really got the hang or perimeter this week! If you missed any activities, then please go back and do them. If not, then here is your challenge!

CHALLENGE

Go around your house and work out the perimeter of different objects. Please draw pictures to show your measurements. You can use cm if you have a ruler or you can use anything else to measure too! Please measure at least 10 different objects. If the objects are curved, you will need to use string like in activity 4. Please try to use several different units in this task.

e.g.: The perimeter of our table is: 30 hands! (10 + 5 + 10 + 5)

The perimeter of our rug is: 52 remote controls (15 + 11 + 15 + 11)
