For maths, I will show a selection of daily activities on line and ‘hands on’ using things easily found in your home.
Activity 1
Today your child is going to help you to sort out the socks. Socks are great for developing number knowledge because they come in pairs. If one sock is lost, as very often happens, this is a wonderful opportunity for problem solving. Ask your child to organize the socks in pairs by matching colours and sizes, and count them (both individually and in pairs). You could use some large paper to draw a line and numbers, as is shown below: |
Activity 2
Use spaghetti, lollypop sticks or toothpicks to make 2D shapes like squares, rectangles, triangles, ovals and circles. Ask your child which shape was harder to make and which one is their favourite and why.
Activity 3 Today, we are learning about patters either using the web link below or by creating your own pattern of cutlery with some ‘blanks’ as shown below: |

Activity 4 We are doing counting up to 10 or 20 using the interactive game below or using real objects. If you are going for the second option, tell your child a number (ideally write it down too) and ask them to make the number using counters like 1 penny coins, buttons, pasta shapes or anything available in the house. |

Activity 5 Use fruit and vegetables in the kitchen to put them in order from the smallest to the biggest and vice versa. Encourage your child to use mathematical language (big, bigger, biggest, small, smaller, smallest). Another option is the interactive game below: |
