Write a book review telling the teacher why he should read the book. Think about:

• why you liked it. What were the exciting parts, the sad parts etc?
• what surprised you about the story?
• do you have a favourite character?
• what do you think about the author's choice of words or the layout of the book?

English Activity 1

This term we are going to be learning about the adventurer William Shackleton. But before we do, I would like to know what unexplored part of the world - island, mountain, ocean, desert or even planet - you would like to discover?

Legend has it that Shackleton’s crew responded to his call for adventure after seeing an advert that read, ‘Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages. Bitter cold. Long months of complete darkness. Constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success.’

Imagine you are William Shackleton. You need people to come with you on your journey to the Antarctic. Create an advert to recruit volunteers to join you on your epic journey. You must include information about the type of adventure, likely dangers, and what skills you are looking for. Think about what type of person would apply for this role? What attributes would they need?

You want to volunteer to join William Shackleton on his epic adventure to the Antarctic. You answer his advert (the one YOU wrote on Wednesday). You must persuade William Shackleton that you are the best person to go on the journey.

What would you be looking forward to? What skills and equipment would you bring?
